Tim a middle-aged, bipolar-schizophrenic lives alone in his urban apartment. After a restless night he receives an unpleasant visit from his sinister psyche, Tyrone. Tyrone pushes Tim to the point of self-destruction. Tim begins to accept his fate when his episode gets interrupted, but only for the moment.

A curious fifth grader, Jackson, finds his new obsession when Cassidy whips out her special Rubik’s Cube. When Jackson accidentally acquires it, he finds out that it is not as easy as it looks. Jackson buckles down to teach himself and nearly gives up when a seemingly magical friend, Mr. R, appears to help him. Mr. R teaches Jackson more than just how to solve the cube; he learns that it is okay to be different.

On the 1 year anniversary of her 13-year-old son Michael being gunned down by a police officer, Cheryl finds herself sitting through another antagonizing therapy session. Flashbacks of their time together combined with the testimonies of other grieving mothers become too much to handle, causing Cheryl to have her own emotional breakdown.

A very shy and awkward Chuck stumbles along the path of a very beautiful Alice when he visits a local diner during the day. After working up the courage to introduce himself, Chuck is immediately discouraged by Alice's unclear relationship status, and makes a dramatic exit before learning the truth.
